PURPOSE:To reduce the fuel consumption, by providing a plurality of scavenging ports and scavenging passages in a Schnurle type 2-cycle internal combustion engine. CONSTITUTION:A plurality of scavenging ports 11 and 12 and scavenging passages 9 and 10 are provided to supply fuel mixture in a crankcase 19 to a cylinder 1. The first scavenging port 12 adjacent to an exhaust port 6 is communicated with the first scavenging passage 10, and an inlet 14 of the passage 10 is opened at a central position of the crankcase 19. An inlet 13 of the second scavenging passage 9 is opened at a position near the outer periphery of the crankcase 19. With this arrangement, blow-off of a fuel component through the exhaust port may be suppressed to thereby reduce the fuel consumption.
