The device comprises a screen 11, several matrix display liquid crystal modules corresponding to adjacent parts of the image to be displayed on the screen and a light source intended to illuminate the screen by transmission through the modules; between each module 12 and the corresponding portion of the screen are interposed a projection lens 18 and a field lens 26 reducing the divergence of the beam originating from the lens to a few degrees and placed in proximity to the screen.
