PURPOSE:To enhance the separation efficiency of isotopes in an isotope separator for separating the isotope ionized with laser beams by an electric field by providing a monitor quantitatively sensing the ionized isotope. CONSTITUTION:Laser beam 9 are applied to the vapor flow 7 of a metallic raw material 3 contg. a plurality of isotopes and the specified isotope is made to an ionized isotope, and this is separated and recovered with the electric fields of electrodes 10 for recovering a product. On the other hand, large parts of nonionized vapor flow 7 are collected by an electrode 11 for recovering waste, but one part thereof is introduced into the ion lens 14 of a monitor 12 via a vapor hole 13 and a passage hole of the vapor flow, and irradiated with a branched laser 17 from the rectangular direction. By this irradiation, the specified isotope incorporated in the vapor flow 7 is changed into the ionized isotope, and this is converged to the passage hole of the ionized isotope by the impressed electric field and focused in the inlet of a mass filter 15. An electromagnetic field is acted on the ionized isotope with the mass filter 15 and the amount of the specified isotope separated and collected at the prescribed position is automatically measured therewith. The wavelength of laser beams 9 is regulated by judging suitability from this measured value and the designed preset value.
