PURPOSE:To automatically obtain the field information and to convert it with preference into a corresponding KANJI (Chinese characters)/KANA (Japanese syllabary) character string, by providing a syntax structure meaning analyzing part to analyze an already converted KANJI/KANA character string to decide a object field. CONSTITUTION:A syntax structure meaning analyzing part 9 of a processing part 2C supplies a converted KANJI/KANA character string and analyzes the syntax structure by means of the grammar information for grasp of a sentence structure. Then a subject, a predicate, an object, etc., of a sentence are grasped based on the analysis result of the syntax structure together with relationships of those sentence elements known from the sentence structure respectively. At the same time, the subject of the sentence meaning is identified from the sentence structure and the relationships among said sentence elements. Then the application field information held in a word dictionary 3b is obtained from the meaning concept, etc., contained in those words showing the subject of the sentence meaning. Thus the desired field information is obtained and set at a memory part 5b. In such a way, the field information is automatically obtained via the part 9 and set at the part 5b and therefore conversion is secured with preference into a corresponding KANJI/KANA character string.
