An air-conditioning system for cooling or heating the passenger compartment of vehicles driven by turbines is described. The air-conditioning system consists of a coolant circuit which has at least one heat exchanger arranged in the passenger compartment and a heat exchanger which is provided outside the passenger compartment and which, for cooling, operates as a cooling circuit with a heat exchanger in the passenger compartment acting as evaporator and, for heating, operates with the reverse flow direction as a heat pump. The air supply to the heat exchanger arranged outside the passenger compartment is carried out via a mixing chamber to which, apart from the ambient air, a portion of hot air, which is drawn off downstream of the compressor of the drive turbine, can be supplied during the mode of operation as heater. This additional heat can be utilised for evaporating the coolant in this mode of operation. Since the temperature of the mixed air supplied to the heat exchanger can be kept very high, however, the exhaust air coming from the heat exchanger can also be directly utilised for heating the passenger compartment, which, for this purpose, is connected to the heat exchanger via a connection line. By means of this system, the available heat energies can be optimally utilised with minimum space and construction outlay.
