MANUFACTURE OF LIQUID CRYSTAL SHUTTER ARRAY

PURPOSE:To directly record an image without using any other optical system by arranging microlenses which are formed by diffusing dopant light through the window of a photomask on a substrate opposite to a pixel electrode. CONSTITUTION:A liquid crystal shutter array 10A is composed of the pixel electrode 11 and a common electrode 14 between which liquid crystal 11 is sandwiched, and transparent electrodes 15A and 15B and polarizing plates 16A and 16B at the outside of them. The dopant 42 is diffused through the window of the mask 14 on the surface of the substrate ST to increase the refractive index of the substrate, thus forming microlenses 40 which are highest in the center of the window and decrease gradually in the depth and radius directions. Lenses 40 corresponding to picture elements are provided at positions corresponding to the electrode 13 on the light path in a transparent substrate 15a at every picture element then the array 10A itself has image forming ability to form the image of parallel light 1 on a photosensitive material 30 directly, thereby eliminating the need for other optical systems.
