Esters of 3-tert-butyl- or 3-tert-butyl-5-alkyl-4-hydroxyphenyl(alkane)carboxylic acids of the formula I <IMAGE> where R1 = C(CH3)3, R2 = C1- to C4-alkyl or H, preferably -C(CH3)3, m = 0 to 4, preferably 2, with ethoxylates of monofunctional thiophenols or of cycloaliphatic or aromatic-containing monofunctional thioalcohols of the formulae II to V <IMAGE> where l, m, n and o = 1 to 3, preferably 1, m + o = 5, p = 0 to 7, preferably 1, R = H, C1- to C4-alkyl or aryl, R3, R4 and R5 = H, C1- to C4-alkyl, C5- to C12-cycloalkyl, aryl or halogen (only in the formulae II to IV). To prepare these esters, the 3-tert-butyl- or 3-tert-butyl-5-alkyl-4-hydroxyphenyl(alkane)carboxylic acid or their derivatives are esterified with the ethoxylates of the thiophenols or thioalcohols or esterified in the presence of alkaline or neutral catalysts known per se. The esters according to the invention are used for the stabilisation of polymers.
