An ink jet recording device is disclosed, which is characterised by a plurality of ejection apertures for ejecting inks of different colours and by a cleaning apparatus for cleaning the ejection apertures in a sequence from a light-coloured to a dark-coloured ink. Furthermore, a method for cleaning an ink jet recording device is specified, which is distinguished by the staging of the cleaning of a plurality of ejection apertures, in order to eject inks of different colours, in a sequence from a light-coloured to a dark-coloured ink by means of a cleaning apparatus.
