The surfaces of compressed laminates, e.g. of plastic coated hard fibre boards, wood fibre or chipboard or glass fibre panels, are often structured by using embossed press sheets of large format. A steel sheet of 2.5-10 mm. thickness is first surface ground and polished, followed by metal plating. The plating consists of nickel, copper or brass and can be 0.05-2 mm. thick, depending on the depth of the etched recesses. The preferred method is the application of an etchant through a pressure roller. A final chrome plating can be applied to the engraved pattern. |
