PURPOSE:To obtain an agent for suppressing microorganisms, exhibiting strong microbicidal effect against slime-constituting microorganisms, producible at a low cost and giving little effect to waste water, by using a 2-3C organic peracid, i.e. peracetic acid or perpropionic acid as an active component. CONSTITUTION:The objective slime-controlling agent or an agent for suppressing microorganisms contains a 2-3C organic peracid (e.g. peracetic acid or perpropionic acid) as an active component. The agent is effective even in a neutral region and useful for the treatment of a neutral paper-making process. The agent is effective at a concentration of as low as about 5ppm.
