PURPOSE:To measure a length with high accuracy without requiring highly accurate level setting when an apparatus main body is mounted, by providing an input possible key input means for inputting a preset value determining a reference point. CONSTITUTION:An apparatus main body 1 is arranged at a place separated from a processing reference point 8 becoming dimensional reference, for example, for cutting a wood piece 7 and the draw-out quantity of a tape like body 5 up to the cutting position 9 of the wood piece 7 is displayed on a digital display device 4. On the basis of this display, a worker presets the length corresponding to the interval L1 between one side surface of the main body 1 and the reference point 8 by operating the ten-key 3a of a keyboard 3. Next, when the tape like body 5 is drawn out up to the position 9, the worker confirms that the value displayed on the display device 4, that is, the interval L2 between the reference point 8 and the position 9 becomes a predetermined value and can start the cutting of the wood piece 7 on the basis of the leading end of the tape like body 5.
