PURPOSE:To rationalize various operations such as the quality control of a particulate material, the kneading thereof or the granulation thereof, by providing a switch and detecting the penetration of a liquid in the particulate material. CONSTITUTION:The pentration speed of the liquid penetrating into the particulate material 2 allowed to fill a recessed plate 1 is measured on the basis of the liquid level in a liquid sump 3. Therefore, a liquid level meter or a liquid level switch is used in the liquid sump 3. For example, a photoelectric switch as the liquid level switch and an electrode 5 are used. The photoelectric switch is constituted of a light emitting side 91 and a light receiving side 92 and, when a liquid is present, that is, in the state of a liquid level A, the light from the light emitting side 91 is not received on the light receiving side 92 to perform OFF-transmission. In the state of a liquid level B or lower, the light from the light emitting side 91 is received on the light receiving side 92 to perform ON-transmission. This liquid is charged in the liquid sump 3 in definite quantity. The electrode 51 transmits at first by the penetration of the liquid and a timer 7 starts counting. When the liquid in the liquid sump 3 reaches the liquid level B, the photoelectric switch transmits and the timer 7 stops counting. By this method, the penetration speed of the liquid can be calculated and the lyophilicity or lyophobicity of the particulate material 2 is measured.
