The diaphragm arrangement and/or the window or windows of the transmitter and/or receiver of an optical measuring instrument for determining visibility or contaminants in air or water is equipped with an electromechanical vibrator. The vibration prevents cobwebs, algae areas or other particles producing diffused light from collecting on the diaphragm arrangement or the windows.
