The invention relates to a method and a machine for conveying individual open bags made of paper or foil from a bag stock to a bag-closing apparatus, according to which an empty bag is received mechanically from the stock in the region of its filling end, is then brought to the outlet of a filling machine, with its filling end being opened, and, after filling has taken place, is brought into a transporting-away position, after which it is transported away for final closing. In order to allow an accurately positioned delivery of mechanically received bags, conveyed to the filling machine and filled there, into the closing apparatus in a simple way, the bag is accurately positioned horizontally before reception and is then transferred to a holding device which holds the bag, for the purpose of filling it, under the outlet of the filling machine and which, after filling, brings it into an accurate and predetermined transporting-away position.
