PURPOSE:To rapidly position a head by detecting a bit of servo information representing the positional shifting of the magnetic head. CONSTITUTION:A seek action instruction is transmitted to a head positioning control part 1, step pulses in a number corresponding to the number of tracks crossed by the head to reach a desired track are calculated, and thus the identification of a track is executed. Then drive pulse signals are transmitted to the step motor of a head mechanism part 5, and the carriage undergoes a seek action for the desired track. This ends the coarse positioning of the magnetic head 6. After the control part 1 so controls that the head 6 is positioned in the center of the desired track by means of the servo information, the seek action is completed. A servo data intermittently read by the head 6 as a part of a read data is detected by a servo information detection part 3 as a bit of positional shifting information of the head 6, and the data is transmitted to a register 2 as the servo information at the time of every said reading. Thus, the latest information is always stored. In such a way, the head can be positioned rapidly. |
