A flameproof electrical light (1) has a cylindrical housing part (2) whose diameter tapers upwards by means of a collar (3). A transparent cap (4), a protection housing (5) having a printed circuit board (24) and light-emitting diodes (25), as well as a cable entry (6) having a potted cable end (7) are inserted into the housing part from underneath. The parts are prevented from sliding out of the housing part (2) by a screwed-on closure cap (9). The transparent cap and the cable entry maintain a flameproof gap (15 or 16) with respect to the housing part. "Pressure-tight encapsulation" is achieved in consequence and by the selection of all wall thicknesses such that the light is not destroyed by an explosion in the interior. The cable entry and the printed circuit board in the protection housing are plugged together via a single plug device (18, 23), which ensures a simple assembly capability and compact construction. The use of the single plug device is possible since the light is designed in "pressure-tight encapsulation", which means that the cable entry may not be withdrawn, and the plug connection thus released, until no voltage is applied to the light.
