The stroma-free blood substitute is characterised in that fragments of sulphated glycosaminoglycans which have been prepared in a manner known per se are covalently linked to haemoglobin to give products whose oxygen binding capacity can be adjusted in the range from 2.66 kPa (20 mm Hg) to 10.66 kPa (80 mm Hg), preferably in the range from 4.79 kPa (36 mm Hg) to 9.33 kPa (70 mm Hg), by adjusting the ratio of haemoglobin to glycosaminoglycan fragment, and is produced as described. |
