PURPOSE:To provide a printer which makes a high quality print onto either a thermographic paper or a plain paper, by providing a means for varying the pressure of printing operation through a drive means. CONSTITUTION:When a lever 15 is secured to a hook 11a through a pin 16 and a thermal transfer ribbon 14 is held between a plain paper 40 and a head 1 then an arm 7 is rotated slightly in the direction of an arrow C by means of a solenoid 8, then a shaft 2 coupled with the arm 7 rotates simultaneously so as to move the thermal head 1 in the direction separating from the plain paper 40. When the solenoid 8 is opened under this condition, the head 1 is pressed against the ribbon 14 by the energizing force of a spring 5 so as to apply heat onto the thermal transfer ribbon 14 through heating elements in the print head 1 thus transferring ink from the ribbon 14 onto the plain paper. Since the lever 15 is secured to the hook 11a, the energizing force of the spring 5 is large thereby a clear print can be made even onto a recording medium such as a rough paper. When printing is made onto a thermosensible paper, the lever 15 is secured to the hook 11b, then the enegizing force of the spring 5 is lowered thereby the thermosensible paper is not damaged by the print head 1. |
