PURPOSE:To attain miniaturization without losing the power resistance characteristic and to suppress the production of the undesired mode by selecting the mean value of the diameter at each period so as to be less gradually from one terminal toward the other terminal. CONSTITUTION:A part of the TE02 mode wave incident an an input terminal P1 is converted into the TE01, TE03, TE04... mode waves by the change in the diameter of a circular waveguide 1. Only the TE01 wave among them is subjected to electric field addition in phase at each position, then a wave of a large amplitude is obtained and the mode conversion from the TE02 mode wave into the TE01 mode wave is applied. Since the TE02 mode wave is converted into the TE01 mode wave having a weak electric field strength as the wave goes to an output terminal P2, the power resistance characteristic is not lost even when the diameter 2a(z) of the waveguide is reduced gradually from the input terminal P1 toward the output terminal P2. Moreover, since the diameter 2a(z) is decreased at the output terminal P2, the number of harmonic modes to be propagated is decreased to suppress the production of the undesired mode.
