The proportion of nitrogen oxides in the exhaust gases of a gas-burning device is to be reduced by means of a burner lance. For this purpose, a feed pipe (12), through which a portion of the exhaust gas is added to the combustion gas mixture, is connected to a mixing tube (3) of the burner lance in a region where there is negative pressure with respect to the pressure in the combustion chamber (13). <IMAGE>
