The requirement of consumers for optimum space availability in the vehicle leads to the tank having more complex shapes. Conventional measuring devices are no longer suitable for such tank shapes. In addition to this, the consumer places higher requirements on the accuracy of the tank display. This accuracy is required not only at standstill but also in dynamic operating states such as starting, braking, climbing, descent and inclination. The present method with the associated devices deviates to a great extent from the previously known methods. Instead of the lift principle, alternative measuring methods are used, e.g. through the use of a capacitive or piezoelectric sensor. The sensor as part of an oscillating circuit will convert a level change into a frequency change. These frequency changes can also be transmitted in a wireless manner so that the sensor can work without wires being guided into the tank and out of the tank. The energy is transmitted into the tank from outside by inductive methods, and at the same time the sensor transmits its measuring signal on another frequency. The present method with its devices is suitable for automated mounting of the sensor in the tank. It is particularly economical.
