PURPOSE:To obtain a sharp image by mutually connecting recording dots having a large dimension, by providing a gap holding means for holding a predetermined gap between a heat generator and a medium to be recorded on the heat generator or the peripheral part thereof. CONSTITUTION:By contacting the spacer 7 on a substrate 6 with recording paper 9, a gap 15 is formed between a heat generating resistor 4 and the recording paper 9. When a voltage pulse is applied to the heat generating resistor, the heat generating resistor selectively generates heat and the circumferential ink is melted to lower in its viscosity and begins to flow out from an ink passing hole 5 to spread in the gap 15 between the heat generating resistor 4 and the recording paper 9. The molten ink fully spreads up to the region where the heat generating resistor is present but, at this time, the generation of heat of the heat generating resistor is also finished and the ink layer is separated along with the movement of the recording paper 9 to form a recording dot 14 on the recording paper 9. By repeating this process, the recording dots larger than the ink passing hole 5 are continuously formed on the recording paper 9 to form an ink image. |
