At the very moment of starting, the speed of the drive mechanism 14 is zero, and the response speed 2 is gradually accelerated from zero to approach the speed v1 of the variable speed pattern 1. Even if the speed 2 comes to be approximately the speed v1, because the pattern 1 is in a square waveform varying over time, the mechanism is speed-controlled at all time, and varies in a mild and smooth harmonic speed variation pattern 4 within the extent of speed v1, and this provides a stable seek mode T1 without any oscillation. Upon finishing of the positioning of a magnetic head, the operation comes in the position mode T2, and the exchange of data with a disk is executed. In such a way, a more stable and reliable head positioning can be controlled.
