发明名称 LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY DEVICE
摘要 PURPOSE:To improve the utilization rate of light and to obtain a bright image plane by irradiating a liquid crystal element with a P wave (or S wave) obtained through the conversion of a polarized wave converting means together with a P wave (or S wave) separated by a polarizing element. CONSTITUTION:Light from a light source 7 is so guided out by a concave mirror 8 as to become parallel light. This parallel light beam is incident on the polarizing element 12 and split into the S wave 13 and P wave 14. This polarizing element 12 is constituted by coating one-side flanks of two prism substrates 26 with ZnS 15, M9F2 16, ZnS 15 in order and then those prism substrates 26 are stuck together with an adhesive 17 called balsam. This polarizing element 12 makes the split S wave 13 incident on a liquid crystal element as it is and passes the other P wave 14 through a 1/2-wavelength plate 18. Consequently, the P wave is converted into an S wave. Consequently, almost 100% of light can be utilized, so the utilization efficiency of the light is increased.
