PURPOSE:To attain a constantly stable and optimum damping by indexing the output timing of a pulse for stopping a magnetic head at an ultimate position without oscillating the magnetic head based on a head moving speed at that time when a predetermined distance is obtained and controlling a stepping motor at the timing. CONSTITUTION:During the movement of the magnetic head 17, the position, the moving speed and the distance to an object rack are constantly detected, at the time of approaching to a track two before the object track (n), two pulse time intervals t1, t2 of an optimum damping condition are obtained based on the moving speed of the magnetic head 17 at that time to control the stepping motor 15. Thereby, a correctly damping controlled head position is not oscillated, but a settling time can be effectively shortened. |
