PURPOSE:To improve acceleration performances on an upward road and engine brake performances on a downward road by correcting a predetermined target gear change ratio for giving a minimum fuel consumption, corresponding to a vehicle speed, a throttle valve opening and the like depending upon a detected vehicle inclination angle. CONSTITUTION:According to input from a throttle valve opening sensor 74 working with an accelerator pedal 18, an intake pipe pressure sensor 72, engine speed sensors 76 and 78, a continuously variable transmission output shaft speed sensor 79 and a continuously variable transmission line pressure sensor 80, a target gear change ratio is so processed with a computer as to give a minimum fuel consumption, and a clutch 26, a pressure control valve 52 and a line pressure control valve 50 are controlled. In this case, the inclination of a vehicle is detected with a vehicle inclination angle sensor 81 and a predetermined target gear change ratio is corrected. According to the aforesaid constitution, acceleration performances in climbing a slope and engine brake performances in running down a slope are improved and proper response and running are obtained. |
