PURPOSE:To ensure excellent mixing of fuel with air in a cylinder and to improve combutibility, by a method wherein after emulsion of water and oil is increased in temperature through utilization of an exhaust heat, the emulsion is injected from a fuel injection valve in a cylinder togetherwith fuel oil from a fuel injection pump. CONSTITUTION:Differently from a fuel injection pump 28, feeding fuel through a fuel high pressure pipe 210 to a fuel injection valve 27, a pump 213, feeding water or emulsion of water and oil with a pressure, is provided, and is driven by mean of a cam 214 interlocking with a crank shaft 212. The intermediate part of a high pressure pipe 216 running from a pump 213 is situated in a manner to be capable of heat-exchanging with an exhaust pipe an exhaust pipe 26, and through utilization of the high temperature of exhaust gas, the temperature of water or emulsion of water and oil is increased. During partial load of an engine, and by injecting water from the pump 213 or emulsion of water and oil through a fuel injection valve 27 in a cylinder 24, fuel spray is atomized, and combustibility is improved.
