PURPOSE:To obtain the titled external coating of sheathed heater excellent in oxidation resistance, stress corrosion cracking resistance, and weldability at a low cost, by specifying a composition consisting of Ni, Cr, Mn, Si, Ti, C, Co, Al, rare earth metal, and Fe. CONSTITUTION:The external coating of sheathed heater made of austenitic stainless steel has a composition consisting of, by weight, 19-23% Ni, >23-25% Cr, <=1.0% Mn, <=0.7% Si, <=0.3% Ti, <=0.03% C, <=2% Co, <=0.3% Al, 0.03% rare earth metal element, and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities and satisfying Ti/C>=5%. This material is inexpensive and excellent in oxidation resistance and has superior stress corrosion cracking resistance and weldability.
