PURPOSE:To make the striking energy added to a steering column absorbable, by letting the projecting part, installed in a column support bracket, bite into a recessed part of a capsule and having this part plastically deformed. CONSTITUTION:When a car crash occurs and a collision between a steering wheel and a driver comes to happen, a steering column 3 is pressed toward the front down part and a column support bracket also is pressed to the front down part. When a mounting part 4b is slidden as far as a distance L to a capsule 5, a recessed groove 5a of this capsule 5 is engaged with a ball 7 being pressed in the hole installed in the mounting part 4b, whereby this ball 7 is bitten in a groove space of the recessed groove 5a which is plastically deformed. With this plastic deformation, the striking energy added to the steering column 3 is thus absorbed.
