PURPOSE:To prevent the ground of transfer paper from being stained at both ends and the inside of a machine from being contaminated with toner by making the influence area of a transfer charger larger than an area that transfer paper contacts on a photosensitive body and making an area that an auxiliary cleaning member contacts in cleaning operation much larger than it. CONSTITUTION:The auxiliary cleaning member 27 is made wider than a transfer electrode 25. Consequently, toner is prevented from sticking the part of the difference between the magnetic brush width of a developing roller 26 and the width of the auxiliary cleaning member 27 to cause contamination and being scattered in the machine. Further, the photosensitive body 20 is exposed to transfer corona in a transfer process and charged electrostatically and negatively. The area of the photosensitive body 20 outside the width of the transfer electrode is not exposed to the transfer corona and contacts the auxiliary cleaning member 27 almost in the zero potential, so it is charged positively by friction and moves onto the transfer paper, thereby causing ground fogging on both ends. For the purpose, the width of the transfer paper is made smaller than the effective width of the transfer electrode 25 to eliminate the ground fogging at both ends by the simple constitution.
