PURPOSE:To easily etch and form intricate patterns, etc., without requiring skill by using a thin film consisting of latex rubber as an original film for characters, etc., at the time of forming the characters, patterns, etc., by etching on a three-dimensionally curved surface. CONSTITUTION:A photosensitive film is coated on a metallic mold having the three-dimensionally curved surface conforming to the side face of a tire formed with the characters and patterns, while desired images of the characters, patterns, etc., are printed on the thin film consisting of the latex rubber to form a mask original. The photosensitive film on the inside surface of the metallic mold is cured by heating and an adhesive agent is coated thereon. The mask original is tightly adhered thereon. Since the inside surface of the metallic mold is the three-dimensionally curved surface, the thin latex rubber film can be stretched and tightly adhered thereto. The film is stripped after exposure and the photosensitive film is developed. The cured part remains and the metal base surface conforming to the images is exposed. An etching soln. is sprayed thereto to etch the same and thereafter, the resist is stripped. The desired images are thus etched on the three-dimensionally curved surface of the metallic mold.
