PURPOSE:To make wrong retrieval detectable, by performing addition and subtraction on the number of marks counted during the period from the initiation of winding to the completion of winding of an information recording medium in accordance with the moving direction of the medium and detecting abnormality when the calculated value of the marks until the completion is different from the value of the winding initiating time. CONSTITUTION:When the operation start key of a keyboard 51 is depressed, film is automatically fed from a cartridge and wound around a winding reel in a carrier 53 and the initial loading of retrieval is started. A storing and arithmetic section 52 counts mark detecting signals from a mark detector 28 and compares the counting content with a previously inputted retrieval frame number and, when both of them coincide with each other, the section 52 stops film feeding motors 55 and 56 by sending a stop signal to a motor driving circuit 54 so as to stop the film in a desired position at which a desired frame is brought to a prescribed position. Thereafter, the storing and arithmetic section 52 outputs a signal for starting copying operations. Thus, any wrong retrieval which takes place during the operations can be detected.
