PURPOSE:To improve safety and workability by arranging an operating lever to an upper electrode holder 10a and arranging a link mechanism to interlock with the fall of an upper electrode to turn a shielding plate via the action of the operating lever. CONSTITUTION:A collar grip 12 which is insulated and sealed is fastened on the lower edge of the upper electrode holder 10a and the operating lever 14 is provided via a pin 13 and a coil spring 26 is arranged to its side. When two metal plates 27 and 27' are inserted in-between the electrodes 9a and 9b and a cylinder rod 6 is pressurized and moved downward, a contactor 24 is separated from the lower surface of a frame 4 and the operating lever 14 is turned reversely by the elastic force of a spring 26 via a link device and a spark generated by contact between the electrode 9a and the metal plate 27 is shielded by the shielding plate 17. The insertion of the metal plates 27 and 27' is facilitated and a worker is protected from the spark by this method. Accordingly, the safety and the workability are improved.
