PURPOSE:To prevent an amplitude component of a high speed microwave signal from being distorted by providing a peak holding circuit storing a maximum value of a received carrier signal amplitude with in a prescribed time and a sample holding circuit sampling the stored maximum value and holding it till the next maximum value comes. CONSTITUTION:The peak holding circuit 1 detecting the maximum value of the amplitude of an output carrier Eout of a variable gain amplifier 3 for a prescribed time and storing it, and the sample holding circuit 2 sampling the DC output of the peak holding circuit 1 at each prescribed time and holding the sample value until the next maximum value is sampled and comes, are provided. Then the DC output held by the sample holding circuit 2 is used as the control signal to be fed to the variable gain amplifier 3 and the amplified gain is subjected to automatic control. Thus, the carrier wave signal having a prescribed level is outputted with respect to the multi-value orthogonal amplitude modulation signal wave in the automatic gain control operator of the variable gain amplifier 3. Thus, no distortion is given to the amplitude component of the high speed received carrier signal.
