PURPOSE:To improve operability and reliability for message help from the user of a scope type terminal, by managing the request of the message help for an error message or an alarm message by a picture data control means. CONSTITUTION:When help information for a message displayed on a message display area 12 is requested, a cursor is positioned at a message identifying field 13, and a help key is depressed. The picture data control means retrieves a field where the cursor is positioned from the position of the cursor, and decides a variable corresponding to the field. For the request of the message help, the picture data control means 3 informs a help request to a help processing means 5 with the identification information of the message stored as the value of the variable (for example, MSGID) corresponding to the message identifying field 13. The means 5 retrieves the help information from a help file 7, and performs a display processing on a picture screen 10.
