PURPOSE:To prevent the electrolyte from being carried away by the water which is produced by a cathode, and to improve the service life, by avoiding to furnish a water repelling property with a fluorine resin or the like to a substrate of a porous electrode which is an oxidizer electrode. CONSTITUTION:The water repelling property of a substrate 11 of a cathode is furnished only at the outside 16 of the substrate, and the inside of the substrate 11 is composed not to have the water repelling property. To get such a composition, a PTFE dispersion to furnish the water repelling property is spread by a spray to the upper side while the outer surface of the substrate 11 is maintained facing downward. As a result, the PTFE dispersion is concentrated to the lower side (the outer surface of the substrate), and by drying in such a condition, a substrate with the water repelling property is obtained. Therefore, the phosphoric acid carried away with the water which is produced at a catalyst layer 12 can be captured and held near the catalyst layer, and the service life of the fuel cell can be improved. |
