PURPOSE:To enhance clarity of characters being printed, by controlling a thermal head in a normal when a designation is not outputted from a designating means and controlling the thermal head to move in a direction reverse to a normal direction when the designation is outputted from the designating means. CONSTITUTION:With printing data inputted to a printing-controlling circuit 6, the data is stored in a storing circuit 7, and it is examined whether an output signal from a printing direction designating device 8 is present. When the output signal is absent, a command for normal printing is given to a controlling circuit 9, whereas when the output signal is present, a command for printing in a reverse direction is given to the controlling circuit 9. The controlling circuit 9 drives a motor 10 in response to the command, thereby controlling a carriage. After reference to the signal signal from the designating device 8, the printing- controlling circuit 6 calls a character font from a CG 11 on the basis of the printing data stored in the storing circuit 7. Thereafter, the character font called from the CG 11 is tentatively stored in a line buffer 12, and a thermal head 14 is driven by a driving circuit 13 according to the character font. Since a heat-fusible material layer thermally perforated is brought into direct contact with a recording paper, clear images can be printed. |
