PURPOSE:To reduce thermal stress and contrive higher reliability and a longer useful life, by intermittently applying a voltage to a heat generating element a plurality of times as required, thereby recording a recording medium one time. CONSTITUTION:The temperature T of a heat generating element 3 (the surface of a protective layer 5) before application of a voltage, namely, at time t0 is approximately equal to the ambient temperature T0. When the voltage is applied to the element 3 for a period of time t0-t1, the temperature T of the element 3 is raised to T1, but after the first application of the voltage, the temperature T is lowered over a period of time t1-t2. When the second voltage application and the third voltage application are carried out respectively for periods of time t2-t3 and t4-t5, the temperature T of the element 3 is raised from T1-T2 and then to T3. By this method, temperature rise is sufficiently restrained, as seen from comparison with a raised temperature Tp resulting from conventional (one-time) heating, indicated by a broken line. The area S of transfer onto a recording medium R when voltage application is carried out three times reaches a maximum upon the third voltage application, and it is observed that this heating method provides sufficient thermal energy.
|
