PURPOSE:To obtain the titled polymer having high electrical conductivity and useful as electrode, electric cell, semiconductor part, etc., with abridged production steps in improved productivity, by carrying out oxidative polymerization of a monomer having 1,3-dihydroisothianaphthene structure in the presence of an oxidizing agent. CONSTITUTION:The objective polymer having isothianaphthene structure of formula II can be produced in one step by carrying out the oxidative polymerization of a monomer having 1,3-dihydroisothianaphthene structure and expressed by formula I (R<1> and R<2> are H or 1-5C hydrocarbon group) in the presence of preferably 2-5mol (based on 1mol of the monomer) of an oxidizing agent (preferably 2,3-dichloro-5,6-dicyano-1,4-benzoquinone, tetrachloro-1,2-benzoquinone, iodine, etc.) preferably at -30-+150 deg.C for 0.5-24hr.
