PURPOSE:To reduce the quantity of deterioration in polarized wave quenching ratio by forming the section of a through hole for optical fiber fixation which is provided to the center part of a ferrule in an elliptic shape which has mutually orthogonal major and minor axes. CONSTITUTION:The elliptic through hole 2 is provided to the center part of the ferrule 1 made of glass for optical fiber connection, i.e. its axis part. This elliptic through hole 2 has the mutually orthogonal major axis 4 and minor axis 4 running on the axis of the ferrule 1 for optical fiber connection. A polarization plane maintaining fiber 5 is provided with a couple of strain giving parts 7 at positions symmetrical about the core 6 in the center and then adhered and fixed in the elliptic through hole 2 of the ferrule 1 for optical fiber connection by using an adhesive 8. Consequently, the direction of stress originating from the setting shrinkage of the adhesive 8 and temperature variation is made coincident nearly completely with the direction of the given strain of the polarization plane maintaining fiber 5, and the quantity of deterioration in polarized wave quenching ratio is reduced to about 10dB.
