PURPOSE:To produce a highly stereoregular polymer having excellent particle form in high yield, by using a catalyst system consisting of a specific solid catalyst component, an organometallic compound and an electron donative compound. CONSTITUTION:A polyolefin is produced by polymerizing an alpha-olefin using a catalyst system consisting of (A) a solid catalyst component produced by reacting aluminum trihalide to a homogeneous solution containing (i) one or more compounds selected from metallic Mg, a hydroxylated organic compound and an oxygen-containing organic compound of Mg (e.g. magnesium methylate), (ii) an electron donative compound (e.g. butyl formate, methyl benzoate, etc.) and (iii) an oxygen-containing organic compound of Ti (e.g. titanium tetraethoxide) and reacting the reaction product with a halogen-containing organic compound, (B) one or more organometallic compounds of the group Ia, IIa, IIb, IIIb or IVb metal of the periodic table and (C) an electron donative compound.
