PURPOSE:To attain the multi-value recording with a simple method and good accuracy by making the irradiating condition of a beam on a recording medium into a multi-value and using the recording condition of a multi-valued irradiating position to the recording of multi-valued information. CONSTITUTION:An electron line 2 is always emitted from an electron gun 1, and erasing signal 7 is turned on, and then, the electron line 2 is deflected by a deflecting electrode 3, cannot pass through the aperture of a diaphragm 4, therefore, the line cannot arrive at recording medium 6. When the erasing signal 7 is turned off, the electron line 3 passes through the diaphragm 4, passes through an electron lens 5 and arrives at the recording medium 6. At this time, simultaneously, a multi-valued signal 9 to be recorded is impressed, the power of an electronic lens 5 is changed, and then, the irradiating area is changed on the recording medium 6. When (a) shows a case when the value of the multi- valued signal 9 is small, (c) shows a case when the value is the largest, (b) shows a case when the value is about the intermediate extent, and a spot is changed in the sequence of SP1, SP2 and SP3 from the value in which the multi-valued signal 9 is smaller.
