PURPOSE:To shorten the time needed for correction of the wrong input of data that is caused when the data is supplied to an internal memory from an external device, by storing an invalid code into a document file and at the same time displaying the invalid code. CONSTITUTION:A deciding means decides whether or not character information read out of a recording medium is equal to character information having a reading error. If so, the character information is displayed by a display control means as specific character information showing an error information. Then said specific character information is stored in a memory means together with the character information read out of the recording medium. When the specific character information stored in the memory means is designated by a designating means, a calculation means calculates the number of specific characters which are stored in the positions following a designated character. The result of this calculation is displayed by a display means. Thus it is possible for an operator to detect wrong data and to easily correct this wrong data.
