PURPOSE:To surely detect the residual of developer and to improve the quality of an image by resetting a toner replacing signal after surely replacing a cartridge. CONSTITUTION:When toner in a toner hopper 2 is reduced less than the prescribed volume, a developer residual detecting means 9 generates a toner empty signal and a cartridge replacing instruction is displayed on a body panel based on the signal. When a cartridge 1 is extracted and another cartridge 1 is set up, a cartridge detecting means 10 arranged at a position opposite to the cartridge 1 of the toner hopper 2, generates a cartridge replacement completion signal and resets the cartridge replacing instruction. Namely, the means 10 detects the existence of the cartridge 1 by radiating light from a light emitting part to the cartridge 1 and detecting the reflected light by a light receiving part. When a cartridge absence signal (OFF signal) or a cartridge presence signal (ON signal) are outputted, the cartridge replacing instruction is reset. |
