PURPOSE:To simplify a device and to shorten arithmetic time by obtaining an appropriate approximate initial value instead of real number operations when a distance between two points is obtained. CONSTITUTION:Horizontal and vertical distances XD and YD between two points are obtained. If the vertical distance YD is zero, the horizontal distance XD determines the distance L between two points. A sum C of the square of the XD and that of the YD is calculated. Through integer and simple calculations the initial approximate value L0 of the distance L is obtained according as the horizontal distance XD or the vertical distance YD between two points is longer, and hence the number of iteration times is reduced. Only by the integer calculation, two approximate values L1 and L2 are calculated from the approximate errors of the L0, and codes for their approximate errors are obtained. When reverse codes are found, the distance is determined. If the distance fails to obtain, the approximate value is reset.
