PURPOSE:To perform correction so as to always automatically keep the position of the lateral end edge part of the paper introduced into a gauge drawing apparatus constant, by a method wherein the gauge drawing dimension of paper is set and detected at the approach position of a side gauge drawing apparatus and the right and left positions of the paper pile on a pile table are subjected to movement control. CONSTITUTION:The set gauge drawing dimension (c) of the lateral end edge part of printing paper 5 with respect to a side gauge part 15 is determined on the basis of the quantity of rotation of the drive rotaty roll 14 of a gauge drawing apparatus at one cycle of a printing press 1 and, for example, said roll 14 rotates by a peripheral length of 6mm. Unless the interval (a) between the lateral end edge part of the printing paper and the side gauge part of a gauge drawing apparatus at the point of time when the paper contacts with a frontgauge part 7 is at least 0<a<c, the end edge part can not contact with the side gauge part 15. Then, the position where one lateral end edge part of the printing paper is detected by a photoelectric detector and a reference position is set to a dimension (c) and c-a=DELTAx is operationally processed to be set as a parameter for generating a pulse signal and a pile table moving control motor of a paper piling apparatus is started, depending upon pulse quantity and the position of the pile table 26 is corrected and moved by predetermined quantity DELTAx to always automatically set the lateral end edge part of the paper to a reference position.
