PURPOSE:To improve the accuracy of detection and to increase a multirotating speed by providing plural different gears which are engaged with a shaft of rotation to be detected in order and setting the numbers of teeth of engaging gears so that when the number of teeth of one gear is (n), that of the other is m(n+ or -k), [where (m) is an integral ratio, -n<k<n, and knot equal to 0]. CONSTITUTION:A detection signal 2A is fitted coaxially with the shaft to be detected and detection boards 2B and 2C are pivoted rotatably; and gears are formed at their outer peripheral edges throughout the entire peripheries and those gears 1A and 1B, and 1B and 1C engage each other. Magneto-resistance elements 3A-3C are fitted to the respective disks 2A-2C and connected to an arithmetic unit 4. Here, the number nA-nC of teeth of the respective gears 1A-1C are so set that k1=-1, k2=1, and m1=m2=1 in an equation I; and an expression II holds for the numbers (a)-(c) of the detection disks 2A-2C and the numbers nA-nC of teeth. Consequently the absolute angles thetaA-thetaC of rotation of the respective gears in one turn are detected and used to detect the multirotation state of the gear 1A and find its absolute multirotational angle.
