PURPOSE:To constantly correctly initialize a magnetic head by forcibly moving a head carriage to a refuge position, separating a cam follower from a feed cam and forcibly rotating the feed cam in an opposite direction to the feed direction and moving the head carriage in an opposite direction to the forcibly moving direction. CONSTITUTION:When the feed cam 91 is situated at a certain rotating position Q1, the magnetic head 94 is situated at a track position P2 corresponding thereto, and a first operating means 101 is operated, the head carriage 93 is forcibly moved to a direction shown by an arrow B' against a head carriage energizing spring 97. When a second operating means 102 is operated, the feed cam 91 is forcibly rotated in a direction shown by an arrow A', reset to its initializing position Q0 and stopped. After the reset, when a third operating means 103 is operated, the head carriage 93 is moved to a direction shown by an arrow B, the cam follower 95 abuts against the periphery of the feed cam 91 stopping at the initializing position Q0 and stops. At this time, the magnetic head 94 comes to the initializing position P0 and stops. Thereby, the initialization of the magnetic head 94 can be constantly correctly carried out.
