PURPOSE:To record light information with high density by correcting the relative position shift of a recording track with a reference detecting signal indicating the position shift. CONSTITUTION:A recording light spot SPT1 is projected on an optical recording medium 2 and also projected crossing the running direction (a) of the optical recording medium 2 to form many recording tracks TR on the optical recording medium 2. Then reference light beams LA21 and LA22 are projected on a recorded pattern RPT consisting of the recording tracks TR through plural reference slits 6 to obtain reference detection signals S31 and S32 indicating the relative position shift of the recording tracks TR of the recorded pattern RPT from the reference slits 6 based on reflected light on the surface of the reference slits 6 and interference light beams LA21X and LA22X with the reflected light on the surface of the recorded pattern PRT. Those reference detection signals S31 and S32 are used to correct the relative position shifts between the recorded pattern RPT of the optical recording medium 2 and the recording light spot SPT1 and reference slits 6. Consequently, the recording tracks are recorded to high density.
