PURPOSE:To obtain the title polymer excellent in heat decomposition resistance and transparency, by polymerizing butyl methacrylate in the presence of a specified chain transfer agent and a specified polymerization initiator. CONSTITUTION:Butyl methacrylate (C) is polymerized at a temperature higher than the b.p. of the decomposition residues of component B in the presence of 0.01-3wt% linear alkyl mercaptan (A) (e.g., n-octyl mercaptan) as a chain transfer agent and 0.1-2wt% azoic or peroxide compound (B) as a polymerization initiator (e.g., azobis-t-butane).
